Weekly Android Roundup of the week- Moto Z, Moto Modes, Allo and more

First week of October will also witness launch of Moto Z smartphone along with Moto Mods in India. It was introduced back in June at the Lenovo Tech World 2016. Moto Z is a 5.5-incher Dual-SIM phone featuring Quad-HD AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass display. The phone has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU. It comes with 4GB of RAM and two variants: 32GB and 64GB with expandable memory up to 2TB with microSD. The Moto Z has Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow on board. On optics side, the phone has 13-megapixel rear cameras with Dual-tone LED flash and a 5-megapixel  front-facing camera. The device is backed by a 2600mAh battery with Turbocharging.

This week, Google launched Allo – Its intelligent & instant messaging app for smartphones. With WhatsApp already dominating the world of Android and iOS; Allo is surely enroute to challenge the most preferred Instant messaging brand. The best part of Allo is the Google Assistant feature that acts like a personal assistant. Type ‘I am hungry’, and the assistant will list out options nearby. You can also use precise location and top rated as the filter. You could also type “I would like to have burger now” and the assistant would suggest you places that would serve burgers. If you wish to check your schedule tomorrow, simply type “Show my agenda tomorrow and the app would share details. Using Allo Assistant, you can set alarms, reminds and schedule next meeting. The app also allows you to see your flight schedules in case you have scheduled your travel. Download Now

To me, one of the best feature in the app is the automatic responses to messages on behalf of the user. This is powered by a software that contains machine-learning technology. Say a person sends you a message “How was the conference” and the app suggests options like “It was good” and “Pretty good” as the option that you can send across. This feature is cool for the users on the go or when the users are busy. Another awesome feature is the ‘picture recognition’ feature in this app that makes it to recognize a received picture and suggest an automatic response. Say a user sends you a image of sunset, you will see suggestions like “Stunning Sunset!”, “That’s beautiful” as the some of the options for easier reply. While both Whatsapp and Allow offer end to end encryption, Allo goes one level up to provide ‘selective end to end encryption’. Using this feature you can select the contact you want to chat with under incognito cover. The allo app also allows you to format your text and send across larger and smaller font sizes of text messages. This is possible by sliding the send button up and down.
